Reddaway Professional Driver Jeff Payne Named as America’s Road Team Finalist

TUALATIN, Ore., Oct. 27, 2016 â€” The American Trucking Association (ATA) has selected Reddaway driver Jeffrey “Jeff” Payne as a finalist for their 2017-2018 America’s Road Team. This makes Payne one of just 33 drivers nationwide to be nominated for the position of America’s Road Team Captain.

Founded in 1986, America’s Road Team is an elite group of professional drivers selected to serve as representatives of the trucking industry. The team represents America’s 3.4 million professional drivers and serves as an example of the professional dedication and teamwork needed to deliver America’s freight safely and on time. The America’s Road Team continues with the support of Volvo Trucks North America. Road Team members, referred to as “Captains,” engage with motorists, news media and public officials to advocate highway safety and promote the trucking industry. When selecting Road Team Captains, the ATA seeks drivers with an exemplary safety record, exceptional professional achievements and a deep understanding of the industry.

“Jeff Payne represents the very best of Reddaway and the industry at large,” said T.J. O’Connor, president of Reddaway. “His commitment to safety, professionalism and advocacy makes him an ideal candidate for the position of America’s Road Team Captain. We are honored to have Jeff represented in this prestigious class of finalists, and we are equally honored to have him as a part of Reddaway.”

Jeff Payne currently operates as a city driver out of the Reddaway Saint George, Utah service center. He has been driving professionally for 24 years and has spent the past 23 years with Reddaway. He has remained accident-free for the entirety of his career and has logged over 2.5 million miles in that time.

Payne is also a regular competitor at state and national Truck Driving Championships (TDC). Since 1997, he has taken first place at the Utah State TDC 13 times and was named Utah State Grand Champion in both 2003 and 2014. He also placed first in the Twins category at the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) in 2011. In 2014, he received the prestigious Neill Darmstadter Professional Excellence Award, which recognizes the NTDC competitor judged to best exemplify the characteristics of a professional truck driver--based on driving record, skill, knowledge, attitude toward safety, and other considerations. He also received the 2014 NTDC Vehicle Condition Award.

The 33 America’s Road Team finalists share a combined 77.6 million safe-driving miles and 893 years of professional experience. The final selections for the 2017-2018 America’s Road Team will be made on January 12, 2017.
