What's New at Reddaway

Reddaway Drivers bound for NTDCFabulous Five move on to National Truck Driving Championships

We're excited to announce that five Reddaway drivers—Ryan (John) Harris (Four Axle, Montana); John Lopez (Straight Truck, Colorado); Jeff Payne (Tanker, Utah); Mike Redd (Four Axle, Utah); and John VanBuren (Straight Truck, Oregon)—beat out the competition to place first in their state driving competitions

This earns our Fabulous Five the right to move on to the 2010 National Truck Driving Championships to be Aug. 3–7 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

To participate in state-level competitions, drivers must be accident-free for the 12 months leading up to the event. At the state events, drivers are challenged with maneuvering tests on a driving course, a pre-trip inspection, a written exam on vehicle operation and federal safety regulations and an oral test.

Only drivers that place first in class at the state level progress to the national championships, known as the Super Bowl of Safety. There, our drivers will compete against 400 others for national titles in eight different classes of vehicles and for the overall title of National Grand Champion.

"We have an unwavering commitment to safety at Reddaway," said T.J. O'Connor, Reddaway president. "Ensuring that we're working and driving safely is the foundation by which we deliver confidence to one another and our customers every day. I'm very proud of the accomplishments of our Fabulous Five who are going on to the national stage, and of all our drivers who make safety a way of life."

Not perfect, but always professional

Customer and driver shake handsAt Reddaway, we're proud that more than 99 percent of our customers' shipments are delivered intact and damage free. But that leaves less than one percent where we've let our customers down. While a small number, it's a big responsibility.

We think our claims service should be just as professional as every other aspect of our business. This approach rings true, at least from one customer's point of view.

Recently, Danelle Best in our claims department received the following voice mail message from Veronica Freitas, a customer at Alliance Traffic:

"I'm calling regarding claim number 1003897. I actually am just calling you to compliment Reddaway on your Claims Department and how outstanding your response to my claims and to my requests are. There is NO claims department—and I deal with them all—that even remotely compares to you guys. I'm sure you are like me, because you work with claims all day, and most of the time people are just yelling at you. So I just wanted to tell you thank you so much for paying out my claim, thank you so much for your professionalism. I just really appreciate it."

When Danelle's boss called to thank Ms. Freitas for her message, we got an earful. Ms. Freitas told us that Reddaway has the best service and operations of any carrier she does business with, complimenting us on being professional, well trained, working in sync with each other, the "ten" on the one-to-ten scale.

Sounds great! But what if the next encounter doesn't have a happy ending? Ms. Freitas acknowledged that has happened, nobody is perfect, and our level of professionalism, courtesy and caring is far and above anyone else's.

Bring this level of quality service to your supply chain today. Schedule a Reddaway pickup at reddawayregional.com or by calling our Customer Care Group at 1-888-420-8960.

Retail sales up in June

Women shoppingWarm weather across the country drove shoppers into air-conditioned stores and pushed sales up. Retail Metrics reported sales at 30 chains up 3.1 percent in June. The International Council of Shopping Centers trade group says that sales between February and June probably averaged four percent per month for the biggest gain since 2006. The group also estimates sales in 2010 will grow 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent at the more than 30 chains it monitors.

Obama pledges to push free trade agreements

White HouseAs part of his goal to double exports in five years, President Obama said he would renegotiate and urge Congress to ratify the Panama and Colombia free trade agreements. The president also intends to push for a free trade agreement with South Korea. All three trade agreements originally were negotiated under former President George W. Bush and have been stalled in Congress.

Tips to Make Your Life Easier

Web enhancements: New shipping label options

Shipping labelsMore formats means greater flexibility and convenience for registered users of reddawayregional.com, who use its Electronic Bill of Lading (EBOL) tool, which also features shipping labels.

After completing and submitting an EBOL, you will be given options for printing the bill of lading and shipping labels.

This saves you time and ensures consistent information on your shipping documents

Recent enhancements to our interactive website let you print on additional Avery® label formats which frequently are used in the industry.

Label formats include:

  • Avery 5164/5264 (six labels per page)
  • Avery 5168 (four labels per page)
  • Avery 4161 (two labels per page)
  • Continuous 4 x 6 labels

In addition to the shipping to/from fields, these labels can include the shipment's PRO number and a reference number, such as a purchase order number.

Also, the number of labels printed is indicated (for example, 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3) helping to keep your shipment intact. And with the opportunity to select the label print position on the page, you can avoid wasting labels and paper.

You also can print packaging labels, such as those advising driving and dock professionals that contents are fragile or cartons should not be double stacked.

Electronic bills of lading and printed shipping labels are just two ways reddawayregional.com can help registered users manage their supply chains. Check it out today!

Not a registered user? Not a problem!  Simply click here, complete the registration screen and click "Submit". That's it!

A Place Reddaway Calls Home

Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver on a map, city scenesThe Vancouver 2010 Winter Games awakened our senses to the city known as "Spectacular by Nature". From "Kits" Beach to mountain peaks, the Gastown Steam Clock to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, Vancouver is an awesome city and a place Reddaway calls home.

Take a walk through the city to discover the Vancouver Public Library's central branch—nine stories high and designed to look like Rome's Colosseum.

Enjoy the tranquility of Dr. Sun-Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden and its serene combination of rock, water, plants and buildings.

Stroll through the picturesque fishing village of Steveston in Richmond for the catch of the day and memorable views of the Georgia Strait.

Or visit the Grandville Island Public Market for fresh produce, baked goods, flowers and artistic treasures.

Vancouver even has a floating dining room, buoyed up on 1,675 two-liter recycled plastic bottles.

Like many cities, Vancouver can boast about its fine museums and aquarium. However, with dozens of microbreweries in and around the city, you also can broaden your education with a brewery tour followed by a sampling of the craft. Or if wine is your thing, the Fraser and Okanagan valley wineries also offer tours and tastings.

And you don't want to miss Vancouver's annual Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, held summers in Vanier Park. Last year, the event drew more than 90,000 visitors.

Reddaway knows Vancouver, and shippers know they can count on Reddaway, the leader in next-day service. To schedule a pickup, go to reddawayregional.com or call us at 1-888-420-8960.
